No One Can Serve Two Masters
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:22-24
The bible states that Jesus spoke of two masters. You must understand that we cannot serve two masters at the same time. You cannot serve one master with something and serve another master with something else. You can only serve one master. A master is a person or a thing that has power over something or someone. The word master was used many times in the Old Testament, including in Genesis. Elijah used to wait on his master! You do not have to wait on anything or anybody else but God. When we speak about our master, we are speaking about God.
“I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.” Psalm 37:25
As it states in Psalms, the righteous have never been forsaken! True happiness comes from the Lord our God. Choose who your God will be!
Money is not your God
Many people think that money is what runs their life. When they are going through a financial crisis, they become depressed or anxious, yet when they are financially stable, they are happy. Money is not your God!. When you start to depend on the money you have, you stop depending on God.
If you depend on money for your happiness, it will destroy you. Money will come to shut you down and hold you back from your relationship with God. Money will make you go after things that you were not supposed to be going after, it will make you do things that God did not intend for you to do. When you depend on money to fulfill you, you will never be happy. When you serve money, you will fall away from God. When you serve God, money will come after you.
Only One God
“In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me. Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Your works. All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And shall glorify Your name. For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.” Psalm 86:7-10
We need to realize that when we serve money we are serving another God. When your number one provision is God, you will never need anything else! You will never lack anything else! Money is not above God, God is above money. Don’t depend on money to praise God. Many people walk into church expecting a quick fix. You need to bend your knees and worship and praise God to get what you need! You need to honor God and read the Word and show God what your heart is really after! This is not a “snap your fingers and you got it” deal… You have to work for God to bless you! Its time to change your old ways; leave the old you behind and build up the new you in God.
Dying to Live
There is no way to serve two masters equally; you will love one and despise the other. It is time that you make up your mind! In the bible, Jesus said that if you serve money, you will be a servant of money for the rest of your life. Money speaks, money works along with the spirits of death, misery and poverty. Its time to come clean and serve the true and Almighty God!
“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:38-39
In the kingdom of God, if you want to go up you must first go down. The bible states that you must first take up your cross and follow Him; die to yourself first in order to truly live in Christ.
Never Seen the Righteous Forsaken
“I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; before the ‘gods’ I will sing your praise. I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.” Psalm 138:1-2
God has a beautiful and awesome future ahead of you. Serve the One true God, sing His praises before the false gods!
